    Welcoming by Design

    Drawing on Welcoming Australia's national work with local councils, sports clubs, universities and workplaces, Aleem will explore why inclusive communities don't happen by accident and what leaders and organisations can do to build them deliberately. Speaker Bio Aleem Ali has spent more than two decades seeding and mentoring leading initiatives and social enterprises that advance inclusion, belonging and justice for diverse communities. He is Deputy Chair of Oxfam Australia and a mentor and advisor to startups, community enterprises and government agencies. As CEO of Welcoming Australia, Aleem works with leaders and organisations across the country to cultivate a culture of welcome and advance communities where everyone belongs, thrives and shapes our shared future.

    The Mapping Social Cohesion study is a nationally representative survey providing a barometer of how Australian society is faring. Now in its 19th year, the 2026 study will report on a survey of more than 8,000 Australian adults to gauge their attitudes, perceptions, experiences and behaviours related to social cohesion and other topical and related issues. Speaker Bio Anthea Hancocks is the CEO of the Scanlon Foundation Research Institute. The Institute is dedicated to making research into social cohesion accessible and understandable while maintaining the highest levels of research expertise and integrity. She has a background in leadership positions in government, professional services, academia, philanthropy and not for profit organisations. Anthea is a Fellow of Monash University, a Civil Society and Public Administration Fellow with the Toronto Metropolitan University and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Anthea has a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Arts, an MBA and is a PhD candidate at Monash University.
