Event description
Welcoming Elul in Song: Rosh Chodesh Elul Concert with Molly Bajgot
joined by Aly Halpert, Batya Levine, Rachel Chang, Elliot Beck and Matthew Goldfield
Join for an inspiring evening of new Jewish music and powerful song to welcome the month of Elul. Molly Bajgot, joined by Aly Halpert, Batya Levine, Rachel Change, Elliot Beck and Matthew Goldfield, will share music from her new first full-length album, Revelry, new tunes for Jewish liturgy and original songs of hope. Together, we’ll create a sacred and songful space to revel in our aliveness, our grief, our healing, and our work for collective liberation as we step into this month of soul-searching leading up to the days of awe.
About the Album:
Revelry is an album of original Jewish music and songs of hope. The songs feature a rich texture of powerful vocal arrangements, harmonies, string instruments, and immersive percussion. Many of the songs are meant to be sung in community, sharing messages of resilience and possibility. Revelry was written over five years, through large political shifts, COVID-19, and personal healing. This music seeks to reflect the depth and vast emotional landscapes of our lives. As our communities ongoingly navigate how to stay connected amidst increasing pressure to isolate and separate, we have a sacred task to stay oriented to ourselves, our people, and our traditions. This album is a prayer for just that.
About Molly:
Molly Bajgot (she/her) is a queer Jewish musician, educator, and activist living on Nipmuc & Pocumtuc land in Easthampton, MA. As a singer, songwriter, and community prayer leader, Molly writes songs for quenching the soul and melodies to enliven Jewish liturgy. Her music comes from places of pain, joy, grief, and a commitment to life and beauty. Today, she writes original songs and melodies for Jewish liturgy that draw from a place of yearning and reclamation. Her first album of original music, Revelry, was released in January, 2024.
Molly is the founder and leader of Shiru Shabbat, a twice-monthly musical Shabbat service at Congregation B’nai Israel in Northampton, MA. She believes in the power of song and prayer to build community, metabolize grief, and build collective power. Drawing from the well that is Jewish music, you can hear Molly on other albums collaborating with Batya Levine, Aly Halpert, Rena Branson, Rabbi Micah Shapiro, and more.
