Description

High school is about more than timetables and classrooms.

For girls moving into Year 7 and Year 8, there can be a lot happening at once.

Friendships shift. Social groups get bigger. Group chats and social media become more important. Bodies are changing.

Girls are becoming more independent while still figuring out who they are, where they belong and how to handle situations they haven’t experienced before.

Navigating High School is a five-day summer Girls Club giving girls a small, supportive space to talk about the parts of high school that don’t always make it into orientation.

Across five afternoons, girls will explore friendships, confidence, body image, social pressures, communication, boundaries and finding their voice, while building practical skills they can take into the school year ahead.

There’ll be real conversation, creative activities, practical scenarios, reflection, laughter and plenty of opportunity to learn from one another.

We'll help her feel more prepared, more self-aware and more confident navigating what comes next.

Who is it for?

This summer series is designed for girls who have:

  • just completed Year 6 and are heading into Year 7

  • just completed Year 7 and are heading into Year 8

Bringing these two groups together is intentional.

Girls heading into Year 7 get to hear from girls who have just been there; what surprised them, what changed, what felt difficult and what they wish they’d known.

Girls heading into Year 8 get the chance to reflect on their own first year of high school, recognise how much they’ve learned and share some of that experience with girls coming behind them.

The older girls aren’t expected to be mentors (Katrina will facilitate the group) but their near-peer perspective can be incredibly valuable.

Girls are welcome to come with a friend, but they do not need to know anyone before they arrive.

What we’ll explore;

  • Day 1: Identity, strengths & belonging

  • Day 2: Friendships, belonging & navigating change

  • Day 3: Confidence, body image, comparison & emotions

  • Day 4: Communication, boundaries, social media & asking for help

  • Day 5: Reflection, transition & intention

Across the five days, girls will have opportunities to:

  • recognise their strengths and what matters to them

  • understand what healthy friendship looks and feels like

  • make sense of changing friendship groups

  • better understand some of the pressures affecting confidence and body image

  • develop language for emotions and difficult situations

  • practise assertive communication and boundaries

  • build strategies for navigating peer pressure and online situations

  • recognise when to handle something themselves and when to ask for help

  • identify trusted people and supports around them

  • head into the school year feeling more prepared for the social and emotional side of high school

What does Girls Club actually look like?

Each afternoon follows a relaxed rhythm:

Arrive & Connect
Time to settle in, chat and reconnect.

Real Talk
We introduce the day’s theme through stories, questions and situations girls can actually relate to.

Try It
Practical activities, creative exercises, scenarios and role-play.

Girl Talk
A facilitated conversation where girls can share perspectives, ask questions and learn from one another.

Take It With You
A short reflection or practical takeaway to help each girl think about what the session means for her.

There’ll also be time for breaks, snacks and simply being together.

With a maximum of ten girls, the group stays small enough for every girl to be known and heard.

FAQs

  • Does my daughter need to be struggling to attend?

No. This isn’t a program only for girls experiencing problems. It can be just as valuable for a girl who wants to meet new people, build confidence, feel more prepared for high school or simply have somewhere positive to talk about growing up.

  • What if she’s shy or doesn’t know anyone?

That’s completely fine. Girls won’t be forced to speak or share personal information. There are lots of different ways to participate.

  • Can she come with a friend?

Absolutely. Friends are welcome to book together, although girls will also be encouraged to connect across the group.

  • Is this counselling?

No. The program provides mentoring, education and facilitated personal-development support. It is not psychology, counselling or medical care.

If something arises that would be better supported by an appropriate health or mental-health professional, this will be discussed with the parent or caregiver.
