Welly Green Drinks - Raumati/Summer Edition
Event description
Raumati/Summer Green Drinks - Ka mua, ka muri/Looking back to look forward
Join us to celebrate the Summer been and reflect on how a better understanding of the past can inspire our future thinking.
As we look to what a future for our city and communities might look
like we welcome two fantastic speakers to inspire, challenge and provoke
thought.
Tim Park (Kaiwhakahaere / Manager at Otari-Wilton's Bush)
Tim will draw on his extensive experience and enthusiasm to provide a vision of how our once forest cloaked hills and valley’s have been so radically transformed since human arrival. Once defined by towering podocarps and a chorus of unique endemic critters we no find the town belt and regenerating scrub (outside of pockets of remnant bush). This understanding is vital to both appreciate what is lost and what could be if we truly adopted long term regenerative thinking
Robin Skinner (Architectural Historian / Te Herenga Waka VUW
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to hear Robin talk will
immediately understand the importance that our freshwater streams once
provided to the city and how they secretly persist beneath our feet
still. With his passion for unearthing the human history of place he
himself has been captivated by the allure of our ‘lost’ urban awa and
motivated by the knowledge that peoples understanding of these is the
first step to working towards a future where water may again flow
through the city.
In 2024 we will be hosting seasonal Green Drinks with four gatherings spread across the changing seasons to engage likeminded people in conversation, story telling and challenge.
