Find out what happens to your waste once it’s picked up from the verge at a behind-the-scenes tour of your local recycling centre. Find out how a transfer station operates and the varied community recycling services on offer.

What we’ll cover:

The history of Perth landfills and waste disposal
The purpose of transfer stations in the recovery of residual, green, and Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) waste.
Disposal options for household waste including the recycling and recovery processes for cardboard, e-waste, bulk polystyrene, plastic plant pots, bicycles, x-rays, white goods, cooking oil, mattresses, scrap metal recycling, and more.
Existing government and industry initiatives that help you to safely dispose of hazardous and problematic household items like paint, poisons, pesticides, flares, batteries, fluorescent tubes, fire extinguishers, electronic waste, and more for FREE.

Wear: Fully enclosed footwear, BYO hat, sunscreen, and water bottle.

Tour: This event involves walking around an active site outdoors. A reasonable level of fitness is required. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Children between the ages of 12-16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Bookings are essential as places are limited to 15 people per tour.

Member council tickets are available to residents from Claremont, Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove & Subiaco. General admission tickets are available for Cambridge, Nedlands and residents from other councils.
