What to expect
Ever wondered how to turn a simple sketch into a wooden sculpture? Curious about carving in the round?
In this one-day workshop, you'll design and carve your own hand-held 'big fish' while learning the foundations of carving in the round using knives and small gouges. Teresa will demonstrate each stage of the process with plenty of examples and individual guidance throughout the day, adapting the workshop to suit both complete beginners and those with previous woodworking experience.

How to sketch a simple carving design and transfer it onto wood
The basics of carving in the roundSafe and effective knife and gouge techniques
Tips for refining shape, form and surface finish
Good to know:
🕕 Doors are open from 9.45.
🥣 A simple soup lunch will be provided.
👉 Please wear closed-toe shoes.
👓 Bring your reading glasses if you you usually use them.
🛠️ Carving tools and materials will be provided.
✏️ Please bring a pencil and an eraser
Cost: £110 per person
Teresa Hunyadi is a wood sculptor with a strong emphasis on sustainability. She studied wood carving at universities in Austria and Japan and teaches at universities in Scotland and The Netherlands. Her work includes representational and abstract elements, predominantly created with hand tools in wood, valuing each piece for its own character as a living material.
