Event description

Whānau Day

Saturday 11 December 2021

10am-1pm

Kia Ora whānau

Come and have some fun learning to swing and twirl our long and short poi

Poi are a fun activity that are designed to encourage hand eye coordination, body control and rhythm when used with singing. Poi are used in Kapa haka (Māori performing arts) and provide a means of self expression and story telling.

Get your pukana (facial expressions) and warrior faces out to do a Haka

Challenge yourself and develop more flexibility and have fun doing tīrākau a Māori stick game played by six or more people with wooden rods which are thrown by the players to each other in time to a song.

We will play some old Māori traditional games throughout the day and have some colour in and paper fish weaving.

There will be Hangi and Fry bread for sale on the day.

Come join us, have some fun and bring the whānau.

Everyone welcome, young, old, all walks of life.
