Join us for this special PRIDE PERSONAL SAFETY EDUCATION/SELF-DEFENCE course designed specifically for rainbow, kahukura, takatāpui, MVPFAFF people of Aotearoa New Zealand rangatahi (teens). We welcome any people aged between 16 to 25 for this course! (If you are aged over 25, click here for the adults course!)

This course has been developed by Kia Haumaru, an organisation with over thirty years of experience bringing the self-defence kaupapa to Aotearoa.

Self-defence is about disrupting violence to give yourself a chance to get away. How to disrupt violence is different for different people, depending on how you are perceived by society.

Learn simple and effective skills for increasing personal and collective safety in various situations. Learn about your rights, setting boundaries, and disabling a larger, stronger attacker. In addition, this course will cover:

Basic physical techniques: kicks, punches, other strikes and blocks
Some evasive techniques
Interactive kōrero about relationship safety

We make it our top priority to create a safe, inclusive space for whakawhanaungatanga (connecting) and akoranga (learning). If you are unsure about this, please contact us for a kōrero.
