WHAT HAPPENS IN A CEMETERY? A SIMULATED BURIAL ON DYING TO KNOW DAY 2022
Event description
Curious about burial choices in the Sunshine Coast region?
Join us on Dying to Know Day in Kulangoor Lawn Cemetery.
That's the main cemetery in our region and the location of the Cemetery Services office.
To explore how burials are performed.
*** If possible, please send your questions by 12 noon Thursday 4 August, thank you!
Why
This is the first step towards providing respectful and affordable burial and cremation (interment)
services in the Sunshine Coast region.
The Sunshine Coast is a proudly diverse, and growing community with various religions and cultures.
There are many specific funeral and burial rituals and practices.
After speaking with many community leaders and different groups, we have identified a need to learn how
to provide culturally respectful funeral and cemetery services.
Did you know, that there are different ways to witness a burial?
There are lots of ways to participate during the burial.
Often groups like to gather in the outdoor chapel which is included when arranging a burial in Kulangoor Lawn Cemetery.
Natural burials are now available in Eumundi Cemetery providing new opportunities to plan with the future of the earth in mind.
And to be more involved in the burial ceremony.
Experienced cemetery services officers will be our guides.
Cemetery Services team members will share their knowledge and experience with us while facilitating a simulated burial.
Please bring your questions!

What to expect
Cemetery Services is providing a prepared (dug) ‘grave’ with carriage and lowering device placed along with the team's training coffin.
The ‘grave’ will be prepared to a minimum depth of about 1 metre.
A team member or two will be on site for any questions.
Where
We will be gathering at a site within Kulangoor Lawn Cemetery.
Away from the graves and visitors.
Everyone is welcome to wander around the cemetery.
A new Reflection Pool has just been completed that you may want to experience.
Kulangoor Lawn Cemetery is easy to find if this is your first visit.
Between Nambour and Yandina, via the connection road (parallel to the Bruce Highway).
Turn into Ackerman Road and you're almost there!
