What is happening with snow and ice in the Southern Alps, and how do we know? - Protect Our Winters Aotearoa Science Alliance Event
Event description
Dr Todd Redpath is a research and Senior Teaching Fellow at Otago's School of Geography. He's passionate about winter, snow and split boarding.
The mountain environments of Aotearoa are sensitive to the impacts of climate change, particularly our glaciers and seasonal snow. While the decreasing volume and extent of glacier ice in the Southern Alps in response to warming temperatures is clearly visible, the story of seasonal snow is a little more complex. There is a relatively small but dedicated community of scientists working on these problems in New Zealand. Join Todd and the team from POW NZ for a chat about what we know, and how we know it, as well as what we don't know, and what we can do to find out.
