What is Lithography? - Casual Session at Grey Hand Press

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Join us for a pilot session demonstrating the basics of fine art hand-lithography in a short-form, casual environment. This workshop will offer a quick hands-on tour of the process to help demystify the technique, explore its aesthetic possibilities, and ultimately help you understand whether it's a technique you want to pursue. Over two hours we will take a simple drawing on a prepared lithographic stone through processing and onto paper. During wait times in the process we will show-and-tell prints and experiments by GHP staff, students, artists, and our personal collections, illustrating the sheer diversity of the medium. We will discuss the different forms of litho to choose from, what makes each of them special, and where you might choose to access your next steps in learning.

What to bring: note-taking materials if desired. Optional, apron, though this will be a low-mess session and we'll have a few to go around!
What's provided: all necessary drawing materials, sample paper, coffee and tea.

This session is in part an outcome of a George Alexander Foundation Fellowship administrated by the International Specialised Skills Institute to develop accessibility to fine art lithography in Australia.
