Gloop: Exploring Urban Food Systems in 2049 (Part 1) is a Melbourne Design Week public exhibition by interdisciplinary future focused arts practice Futureology in collaboration with Swinburne University School of Design and Architecture and leading immersive event program designer BETA By STH BNK exploring future urban food systems through a tour of a “Gloop” Factory in 2049.

With the world's population set to hit 10 billion by 2049, and global temperature hitting 1.5 degrees, addressing sustainable food solutions is more pressing than ever. "Gloop Corp" takes centre stage in this scenario with a bold solution - an AI-powered sustainable food product that surprises the senses with its transformative "Augmented Taste" technology exploring the intriguing interplay between our minds and taste buds. Yet, this new global monofood has its critics, with a group of "real food rebels" standing up against this AI food revolution.

The Exhibition also features the work of Swinburne Architecture and Urban Design Masters students who have been tasked with responding to this unique scenario in their designs of urban food systems and spaces in 2049, through a "futureneering" process and exploration of alternate realities. How might our menus, food spaces, and dining experiences be different in a world of “Gloop” and what can we do to turn this around in the future?

Joining us are also our “Real Food Revolutionaries” who are fighting for our real food future including: food equity champions Slow Food Australia, revolutionary smart gardeners Urban Plant Growers, food travel network A Taste for Travel, business unusual network Disruptive Business Network, and the inspired future food creations of Chef Gigi.

We invite everyone to join us on the opening of "The Gloop Factory" to help reimagine a positive future of urban food systems and spaces.

DOORS OPEN at 6PM, Installation commences at 6.30PM sharp.

This Exhibition is part of Melbourne Design Week 2023, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV. This Exhibition runs from FRI- SAT12-5PM, starting Friday 2 June.
