Description

Looking to slow down, get your hands dirty, and learn something new? Join our 5-week beginner wheel throwing course at Belmont Potters Group and discover the timeless art of working with clay.

Our classes are capped at just 5 students, so you'll get plenty of one-on-one guidance and time at the wheel. You'll work through the foundations of throwing, from your first wobbly cylinder to confidently shaping mugs, bowls and small vessels, and finish the course with a collection of glazed pieces you've made yourself.

In weeks 1 to 4, you'll be guided through centering, throwing, trimming, and surface decoration. In week 5, you'll glaze your finished pieces.

Belmont Potters Group is a not-for-profit community pottery club, and our courses are run at accessible community pricing so more people can experience the joy of working with clay.

This course includes:

  • 5 × 3-hour weekly classes

  • 10kg of clay

  • Glaze and firing costs for finished pieces

  • All studio tools and equipment

  • Personalised instruction in a small group setting

Good to know:

  • Suitable for absolute beginners, no experience needed!

  • Adults only (18+)

  • A minimum of 3 students is required for the course to run

  • Make-up classes are not available if you miss a session

Finished pieces will be ready for collection approximately 4 weeks after the final class.

Working with clay is humbling. Even experienced potters lose pieces to cracking, warping, or breakage during the drying and firing process, it's part of what makes finished pottery so satisfying. We take every care with your work and aim to fire as much as possible, but we can't guarantee that every piece will survive.

Session Times

Each course runs weekly for 5 consecutive weeks on the same day and time. Please review the full session dates below and make sure you can attend all five before booking. Make-up classes aren't usually available, and missed sessions can't be refunded.
