When things go wrong – navigating adverse events, complaints and notifications

This session explores what it is like to be a doctor involved in an adverse event or facing a complaint or regulatory notification.

These situations are often among the most stressful in a clinician’s career. We will look at how distress and shame can show up, the idea of the second victim, and the role of supporters, including the treating doctor, in helping a colleague navigate what comes next.

During this session, we will:

Consider how these situations affect doctors, including distress and shame, and what helps in the moment
Describe how complaints and mandatory notifications work, recognising key differences in WA
Discuss how to support a colleague - how to reach out and where to get help, including through the doctors’ health services across Australia.

Interactive Q&A

The session will encompass a live Q&A, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance tailored to your needs.

A Certification of Completion can be provided to participants who attend this webinar.

CPD - we encourage you to record your own CPD for this webinar in your CPD home - 1 hour of Education Activity.
