The Essendon Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Where are the Wombats Trail - Grade 3 (Easy to Medium)
This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

Get to see a part of the Wombat State Forest, visiting an old racetrack and walking through some bushland with a welcoming group of people, who will give you a wonderful insight to their club.

DISTANCE: 14 km /Return/Loop walk that will take about four hours after including morning tea and lunch breaks

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? A walker who has done some walking of up to two hours. The walk is relatively flat with a couple of hills .

CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 3 - (Easy/Medium) - Note: whilst this is a Grade 3 walk, it is 14 kms. AWT Grade information.

PACE: The walk will be at a leisurely pace with time to take photos and enjoy the surrounds.

TOTAL ASCENT: Approximately 250 metres. There are about two to three hills that are very gradual and not too steep.

WALK DESCRIPTION: This walk starts at Trentham Recreation Reserve playground at 26 Market Street (across the road from Trentham CFA fire station). From here we pass through some residential streets before joining the Wombat Trail. The trail ventures out to the former Trentham Racecourse, as well as some other reserves and forests south of the town. There is not much left of the Racecourse, but there is some wonderful walking. As we make our return to the town centre we'll pass by the historic Trentham Cemetery. The walk is mainly on a dirt track shaded by the trees of Wombat State Forest. There are only a few minor hills and, along the way, we may see the odd wallaby or two. Boots and poles are recommended.

MEETING POINT: The meeting place is outside the Trentham Recreation Reserve playground, 26 Market Street Trentham. We will gather near Mark Lucey’s white Hyundai i30. Please aim to arrive ten minutes before 9.30 am. Google map.

DIRECTIONS: Take Calder Freeway/M79 to Black Forest drive/C792 in Macedon. Take the exit for C792 from Calder freeway/M79 and exit onto Black Forest Drive/C792 towards Woodend. Continue on C792. Take Ashbourne Road and Pearson's Road to Market street in Trentham.

Car Pooling / Public Transport: For those requiring a lift please contact the leader. The meeting place will be at Hungry Jack's Taylor's Lakes, side wall of Bunnings. Cnr Kings Rd and Melton Hwy at 8 am.

PHONE SIGNAL: May not be available outside of the town.

TOILETS: Toilets will be available at the start and end of the walk. Plenty of trees to stand/squat behind.
