Where do we find real peace?
Description
We all want to be happy. We look for peace and security in our relationships, our homes, our work, our possessions and the experiences we create for ourselves. Yet, despite having more choices and comforts than ever before, lasting peace can often feel surprisingly difficult to find.
What if the problem isn't that we haven't found the right circumstances yet? What if we're looking for lasting happiness and security in places that can only offer temporary shelter?
As we come together during the week of World Peace Day, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what peace really means. We all long for peace in the world, but can there be lasting peace around us if we haven't first discovered peace within ourselves?
The ancient yoga tradition offers a very different perspective on happiness, suffering and the purpose of life. Rather than trying to make an imperfect world perfect, it invites us to look within and ask some deeper questions:
Who am I beyond this temporary body?
Why do I experience suffering and dissatisfaction?
Can the things I depend upon truly give me lasting peace?
Where can we find genuine shelter and lasting happiness?
Drawing on the wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita and the yoga tradition, we'll explore what is the basis of real peace and how we can cultivate peace in our life on a daily basis.
The evening will include:
Guided mantra meditation
Uplifting live kirtan (sacred sound meditation)
A practical wisdom presentation
Chai and refreshments
All are welcome.
