Where We Are Triple Bill Performance
Description
Where We Are is a contemporary dance triple bill bringing together three distinct works that sit between presence and possibility, momentum and stillness. Through physical intensity, nuanced performance, and shifting emotional landscapes, the program invites audiences into layered worlds that resist fixed narratives and instead offer space for personal interpretation.
Featuring ‘.OPPY’ by Miki Rolton, ‘FERMATA’ by Ashleigh Furniss, and ‘Echoes of Descent’ by India Stewart-Williams, Where We Are showcases emerging choreographic voices and diverse movement languages shaped by collaboration, risk, and embodied storytelling. Each work explores different relationships to time, weight, connection, and human experience, creating a dynamic and cohesive evening of contemporary performance.
Presented as both a performance and a broader artistic offering, Where We Are celebrates process, individuality, and the act of coming together, inviting audiences to sit in the present moment while reflecting on what it means to be here, and not here, at once.
Works Showcased in Where We Are:

.OPPY by Miki Rolton
Choreographed by Miki L Rolton | Performed by Emily Gilbert, Heather Lacey and India Stewart-Williams | Sound Design by Tom Hobbins Thin air, howling wind, shadows… the dust infiltrates everything in winter. Searching wheels roamed the red dot in our sky for 5111 days as we give autonomy to metal and wires. Tracks in the ground leave behind whispers of adventure. We applaud. We weep. Our creation, sent with a death date, sacrificed for a cosmic frame of reference. Our Opportunity, tucked under a blanket of red dust, still rests.

FERMATA by Ash Furniss
Choreographed by Ashleigh Furniss | Performed by Mila Odea, Zahra Omar, Eilish Fry, and Ashleigh Furniss | Sound Design by Varuni Lila Hold, pause. Fermata explores the uncertainty of stillness and its duration. In this piece, the dancers delve into the anxiety of the unknown and the pressure they feel to move, to perform, to do something - anything. A Fermata, in music, signals a pause; taking the moment to slow down, breathe and reflect. During this rest, will you grasp onto what was, or will you become the composer of the life you want to lead?

Echoes of Descent by India Stewart-Williams
Choreographed by India Stewart-Williams | Performed by Ashleigh Furniss, India Stewart-Williams, Miki L Rolton and Riley Okely | Sound Design by India Stewart-Williams What does it mean to fall? ‘Echoes of Descent’ is a contemporary dance work that delves into the multifaceted experience of falling through myth, science, and the human psyche. Inspired by both the legend of Icarus and Einstein’s “happiest thought,” this piece reimagines descent not as failure, but as freedom - where gravity becomes a force that unites rather than defeats. First performed in Melbourne Fringe Festival 2025, this piece explores ideas from the chaos of fear to the serenity of surrender and the thrill of risk - the full emotional spectrum of letting go. The choreography guides a journey through fear, surrender, and the unifying pull of gravity. At the crossroads of art and science, ‘Echoes of Descent’ invites audiences to feel, reflect, and fall - together.
