ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Located in the west Pilbara, the town of Roebourne - known as Ieramagadu to Traditional Owners, the Ngarluma people - is home to a melting pot of language groups, with several art centres supporting the work of a large number of the Pilbara’s most innovative artists. In 2019, Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi artists invited FORM to work alongside them and the Roebourne Art Development Program was born. Since then, the program has responded to Cheeditha Art Group, Juluwarlu Art GroupYinjaa-Barni Art, and now in its fourth year, independent artists' desires to develop skills that increase opportunities to share culture and further their artistic practice, while contributing to the expanding Pilbara Aboriginal art sector and Ieramagadu’s flourishing art movement.

The artworks in Where We Come From showcase the richness of artistic expression emerging from this region, revealing layers of lived experience, memory, and history. The stories shared are as varied as they are personal, yet they resonate with us all: identity, struggle, joy, resilience, and belonging.

The Roebourne Art Development Program is supported by Woodside Energy. FORM Gallery is supported by Wesfarmers Arts; and FORM is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through its Arts Organisation Investment Program.
