The Whitlam Era
brings fresh insights to Australia's most talked about, but often misrepresented governments. Based on new sources of information and with the benefit of hindsight, this new volume reappraises the Whitlam Government’s achievements, failures, and its impacts on Australian government, politics and public policy. Contributors include leading academics, former senior public servants and Labor stalwarts. It brings fresh insights into this most talked about, but often misrepresented, government.

Featuring letters, campaign materials, Whitlam’s personal diary entries and more, catch a glimpse of Australia in the 60s and 70s. The Margaret Whitlam Galleries will open from 3.00pm - 4.00pm.
ABOUT THEÂ SPEAKERS
Professor the Hon Bob Carr was NSW Premier from 1995-2005 - the longest continuously serving premier in the state’s history. After retiring from state politics in 2005 he filled a casual Senate vacancy and in 2012 became Foreign Affairs Minister in the Gillard Government. Following his resignation from the Senate in October 2013 he became Director of the new Australia China Relations Institute at The University of Technology Sydney and later Professor of Industry in Climate and Business. Bob Carr received the Fulbright Distinguished Fellow Award Scholarship and his recent publications include, Diary of a Foreign Minister
(2014) and Run for Your Life (2018).
Michael Easson AM is a businessman, company director, former union leader, and Labor historian. Michael was Secretary of the Labor Council of NSW, 1989-94, and Senior Vice President of the NSW ALP. Michael holds a MSc with distinction from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in history from the ADFA at the UNSW, and a PhD in transport planning from the University of Melbourne. Michael was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in 1997.
The Hon John Faulkner was a Labor Senator for NSW from 1989 to 2015. Following his election to the Senate in 1989, he held a number of ministries. He served as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate from 1996 to 2004. John Faulkner is passionate about the history of the Australian Labor Party. He is the Chair of the Whitlam Institute Board.
Dr Linda Hort is Emeritus Fellow at ANU and has worked as a teaching and research academic. At the ANU Linda was the Director of the Academic Staff Development Centre and has been active in the National Tertiary Education Industry Union, as the State President of the Queensland Division, and the Secretary of the ACT Division.
