Whole Body Harmony - Sing without Strain
Event description
Everyone can sing. If you have a speaking voice, then you have a singing voice.
So why don't you always sound as good as when you are belting out your favourite song driving in your car or in the shower on a sunny morning? Why can't I hit that high note with confidence? What am I doing wrong to cause hoarseness and a sore throat after only an hour's rehearsal?
In this workshop we will take a look at the various ways that posture and unconscious habits of holding our body interfere with the expression of our full natural voice. To sing is to use our whole being: breath, body, mind. Bringing all these elements into balance is key. I will show you practical ways to start freeing your voice working with breathing, body-mapping and playful experimentation. As always there will be take home tips and tricks to help to improve tone, resonance and enjoyment of your singing, whether in the shower or on stage.
Alexander Tehnique is an internationally recognised method taught to improve performance in all stage arts. The originator of the Technique, F.M. Alexander himself solved the voice problems he developed as an actor in the early 20th century through a combination of mind-body awareness, or what he called "psycho-physical unity". Its focus on releasing unconscious tension which interferes with the optimal functioning of the whole organism as well as long-term improvement in alignment and posture makes it ideal for anyone who loves to sing and to sing well.
