Promoting #migrapreneurship could be the path to bring innovation and create thousands of jobs in Australia.

A new report by the Centre for Policy Development (CDP) and Open Political Economy Network (OPEN) shows that supporting refugees in Australia to launch new businesses could result in nearly $1bn a year added to the economy within ten years. The 2018 CGU Migrant Small Business Report states that of the 2 million+ small businesses operating in Australia, at least 620,000 (approximately one-third) of them are owned by migrants. Observing current growth trends, it’s predictable that these businesses could create up to 200,000 jobs in the next five to ten years.

However, starting a business in your new country of residence comes with its own challenges.

Migrapreneurs (aka migrant entrepreneurs) usually have no network or guidance that can help them start a startup in Australia. This results in them not starting a start-up or not solving a problem they are really passionate about.
The objective of this event/panel discussion is two-fold:

1. To encourage migrants, refugees, and international students to participate and help them understand that they can take the path of entrepreneurship to solve the problems they are really passionate about, and

2. To help local entrepreneurs understand the value of having migrant entrepreneurs and additional cultural diversity within the Australian startup ecosystem.
