Join us in a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon in Melbourne (Naarm)!

A Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is a community event where participants volunteer to edit, improve, or create information on Wikipedia. Since 2022, we've teamed up with Wikimedia Australia to host an Edit-a-thon each year to improve the visibility and recognition of Australian art music creators. This year, we're thrilled to host our first in-person event in the warm spaces of the iconic Bakehouse Studios in Richmond. 

With experts on site, you'll learn the basics of becoming a Wikipedia editor and have the opportunity to contribute to pages about Australian art music creators.

FAQs

Is there editing experience required?
This is open to all AMC members, whether you are a first-time editor or a seasoned Wikipedian. Our friends at Wikimedia Australia will present a step-by-step guide to editing and will be available throughout the session to help with questions and troubleshoot any issues. 

Do I need a Wikipedia account?
Yes, to participate in the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, you will need to have a Wikipedia account. We will send all participants a guide on how to set this up before the event, so that you'll be ready to go on the day. 

I'm an art music creator - can I create/edit my own Wikipedia page? 
Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy discourages individuals from editing their own Wikipedia pages.

Do I have to stay for the full three hours?
It is recommended that you commit to the full session, as this will give you enough time to learn Wikipedia's editing tools and make meaningful progress with your contributions.
