LevEL up to WIL: Creating sustainable frameworks in your classroom for work-integrated learning

Work integrated learning (WIL) can take many forms, from course-based projects and community-engaged learning to field experiences and workplace placements. This workshop will help faculty explore how to take experiential learning (EL) to WIL. And how it can be intentionally designed to create meaningful learning experiences that connect course outcomes, student learning, and partner needs.

Using CEWIL Canada’s educator-focused resources and quality frameworks, participants will work through a staged approach to WIL design and implementation. The workshop will be practical and participatory, with participants applying activities directly to one of their own courses or program areas, engaging in peer discussion and feedback, and exploring how sustainable partnerships can support WIL over time. In keeping with the experiential nature of WIL, the face-to-face component may also include an off-campus sample experience.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed a near-complete WIL-integrated course idea, identified existing and potential partners, and drafted a staged, multi-year plan for integrating WIL within a course or program.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to…

Identify opportunities for experiential learning (EL) leading to work integrated learning (WIL) exploration in your teaching context.
Develop evidence-based learning, reflection, and assessment strategies for WIL projects or placements that assess student personal and academic growth.
Integrate institutional resources to create inclusive and ethical WIL experiences for all students and partners.
Design intentional EL or WIL learning experiences aligned with course learning outcomes and partner needs using the CEWIL Canada’s AAA Quality Framework for alignment
