Event description

You are invited to hold, mold, transform, and play with wild clay alongside Atmospheric River Garden, a sculptural intervention and collaboration with the 21 Acres land and surrounding community, as part of a public art commission through 4Culture.

In fall 2023 artist Vaughn Bell dug up clay that had to be removed to make the soil better for crops from 21 Acres farm. After pulling rocks and organic matter from the clay, blending it with water into a slurry, sifting it through a sieve, pouring it into trays, letting water evaporate from the slurry over a period of several weeks, and it is now mixed and wedged it into malleable material.

Together we will be inspired by the forms of leaves and petals that hold tiny bowls of water necessary for pollinators’ survival. Echoing those forms, we will play with making our own pollinator water cups, which will be fired and placed in the garden as gifts for our pollinator friends.

Meet us in the lawn adjacent to the parking lot; there will be signage guiding you to this location. Come prepared to work outdoors (unless it is truly pouring rain). Wear clothing that can get dirty and plan to have muddy hands.

By attending this event you agree to photography, audio, and video for promotional, archival and other non-commercial purposes. Your presence at this workshop constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded for social media, web, publication, exhibition, or reproduction. If you do not agree to being photographed or filmed, but would like to participate, please email selina.hunstiger@4culture.org.

There is limited parking at 21 Acres, so we encourage folks to carpool or consider other transportation options, if possible.
