You’ll never view weeds in the same light after participating in this workshop!

Join wild food expert Diego Bonetto for an enlightening afternoon stroll in the park, where you’ll discover the most common edible and medicinal plants that thrive around us.

This workshop will reveal the abundance of edible plants flourishing at this time of year. We'll discuss typical species such as chickweed, dandelion, sowthistle, ironweed, flatweed, farmer's friends and peppercress.

You’ll learn local stories of plant resilience, complemented by cultural trivia, migrant perspectives, and native wisdom. We will explore the crucial role weeds play in repairing and enriching soil, as well as their uses in food, crafts, and natural remedies. Most importantly, you will learn how to safely harvest from the urban wild and enhance your diet with essential vitamins and minerals.

Diego, an advocate for edible weeds, is renowned for his urban foraging workshops. Drawing on his upbringing on a farm in Italy, he introduces participants to the ever-present food and medicinal plants that surround us.

This workshop aims to equip participants with essential skills in plant identification, while honouring both public and ancient resources through the re-learning of time-honoured stories.

Each participant will receive a booklet detailing 16 of the most common wild edibles.

Afternoon tea will be provided in the train carriage after the walk.

Make sure you bring along a hat and water bottle.
