Event description

This is the third evening in the series "Stories of the Healing Wisdom of Africa." The workshop is centred around one of the old fantastic tales saved by the Grimm Brothers. Told by Randy Jones, author of "Medicine Without an Expiry Date: Indigenous Remedy for Modern Trouble," accompanied by the African Djembe, it is sure to be a dynamic evening.

Jones will get the crowd sharing, speaking up and speaking out, laughing and listening, and maybe we will see a little bit of foot tapping or dancing as well.

In the view of tribal peoples, meeting the challenges and passions of life in community require more than human knowledge and skill. The extra ingenuity which helped keep things in a good dynamic equilibrium was often understood as being a gift from the "unseen realms"—myth, story, the magic of nature that can't be "3d printed." Myth describes situations that all people in all times experience. And in this tradition, there is not a "moral to the story," rather each listener finds a unique reflection for what they bring to the evening as an intention or a question. The process will be explained, and we will have some break out groups.

This way of working with story in community is not only personal, and unique for each listener, but the time-tested way of training those who would tell stories as well. If that is your interest, these evenings provide valuable experience. The myth doesn't tell you what to do—it helps you understand what the situation already really is anyway.

YOUR INTENTION

What is your trouble at the moment? What question is your soul's consideration currently? Bring a willingness to see if the story might have any comment on that issue. You will be guided through the process and there is no wrong answers!

PRACTICAL MATTERS
