    Event description

Please join us at the Hills Environment Centre for a Wild Webcap workshop with Jess who will introduce you to one of Australia's largest groups of native symbiotic fungi - Cortinarius or 'Webcaps.'

Webcaps are a colourful, charismatic & diverse group of fungi with 2000+ species world wide, forming essential symbiotic relationships with major tree groups, including Eucalyptus (Gum Trees) in Australia. Wild Webcap is on a mission to improve our understanding of the diversity across the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges and introduce as many people as possible to the fascinating world of our fungal friends.
Come along and learn about the ephemeral wonders hiding beneath your feet...

What you can expect from this workshop:

    • Discover the important roles that fungi play in our native ecosystems
    • Learn how to identify common Cortinarius species and build identification skills
    • Work through a simple fungi key to identify some specimens and solidify your new skills
    • See how you can contribute to fungal diversity data to help with conservation & environmental protection efforts
    • Discover the hidden complexities of fungi by viewing spores through our microscope camera
    • Be introduced to local groups & resources so you can learn more about the fantastic world of fungi

    Bookings essential.

This event will be run in conjunction with our SALA exhibition at the Hills Environment Centre and The Summit Community Centre (AHC), celebrating Biodiversity in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
