Wildflowering under the Scribbly Gums
Event description
Spend the morning botanising the wildflowers under the scribbly gums in Mapleton National Park with the Wildflower Appreciation Association.
We will be taking a walk through the Scribbly Gum section of Mapleton National Park, where you will find a heathy understory full of hues of yellow Peas and Banksia.
Our walks are unstructured, so there is no set finish time! On average we have spent 3-4 hours meandering and discussing nature. You are more than welcome to stay as long or as little as you need. We strongly recommend wearing weather appropriate clothing, hats, sunscreen and to pack enough water and snacks for yourself. Parking and meeting information will be sent out with tickets a week before the event. It is advisable to have a fair level of fitness and good health to attend our walks.

What is Wildflower Appreciation Association?
Wildflower Appreciation Association is a floret of wildflowers showing their love of wildflowers. Our wildflower walks are centred around learning botany, ecology, and admiring wildflowers. Our walks are aimed at creating connections for like-minded people and providing a fun space where we can share our knowledge and passion for the environment. We have an iNaturalist project for our walks, where we can compile and share our findings from the day, and provide current species lists for the area of the day.
What's the Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival?
"The Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival is an annual, spring event to celebrate the beautiful display of wildflowers on the Sunshine Coast.
The wildflower festival was born in 1967 by Kathleen McArthur, an artist, author, environmentalist and founding member of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland.
Since its humble beginnings the festival has grown each year with the support of local community groups hosting activities.
The wildflower festival provides free, public guided walks and activities across the Sunshine Coast. From Bribie Island to Noosa National Park people can immerse themselves in nature. Discover the diversity of native, flowering plants in our local environment." - Sunshine Coast Council
