Aims and Objectives:
To introduce WHS risks involved in rescuing and transporting injured wildlife, assess injuries and contain the animal without inducing further stress or trauma.
To equip participants with the ability to confidently handle animals, identify injuries and disease as well as minimise stress.
To familiarise participants with the key aspects of species identification and develop the skills and techniques to accurately determine the species that has been rescued.
Requirements of a volunteer wildlife rescuer:
- Over 18 years of age
- Hold a current driver’s licence
- Ability to commit time and petrol – rescuing animals and transporting them to either vets or carers
- Rescue 101 is designed for volunteers that would like to help rescue wildlife casually, when they are available around their existing work and family activites. It will give volunteers maximum flexibility in terms of how often they get involved and how many rescues they can assist with.
