CELEBRATE AUSTRALIAN WOMEN LEADING FOR PEACE. 
In person at Milton, Brisbane — AND Online

The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Australia is delighted to invite you to the WILPF Australia National Peace Women Awards 2024.

Join us for the presentation of these Awards to FIVE OUTSTANDING WOMEN WHO ARE WORKING FOR PEACE IN AUSTRALIA AND INTERNATIONALLY, each of whom are leading for peace in areas that WILPF values.

THE AWARDEES FOR 2024:

  • AUNTY PAT ANDERSON: Co-Chair of the Uluru Dialogue, for her work for Human Rights and Indigenous Australians, and for her co-leadership of advocacy for The Voice campaign.
  • PROFESSOR MEGAN DAVIS: Co-Chair of the Uluru Dialogue, for her work for Human Rights and Indigenous Australians, and her co-leadership of advocacy for The Voice campaign
  • DR ALICE JILL EDWARDS: UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, for her work for Women Peace and Security.
  • DR MICHELLE MALONEY: Co-Founder and Director of the New Economy Network, and National Convenor of the Australian Earth Laws Alliance, for her work for the environment and against climate change
  • DR AMANDA J RULER: Convenor and Vice President, the Medical Association for the Prevention of War (Australia), for her work challenging militarism and advocating for the end of nuclear weapons.

WHEN AND WHERE

The PeaceWomen Awards will be held on Friday 17 May at the Australian Red Cross Training Rooms, Level 4, 49 Park Road, Milton, Brisbane, 6 pm for 6.30 pm until 8.30 pm.

For attendees and awardees who are NOT able to attend in person, the ceremony will also be shared online via Zoom.

To everyone in the wider community who is committed to peace and a fair and sustainable future, we would LOVE you to join us for this important celebration of the work of these OUTSTANDING WOMEN - and of ALL women working for peace.


OPTIONS FOR ATTENDING

ATTEND IN PERSON: at the Australian Red Cross Training Rooms, Level 4, 49 Park Road, Milton, Brisbane, 6 pm for 6.30 pm until 8.30 pm.   Tickets for in person event: $20 per ticket, includes light refreshments.

ATTEND ONLINE: For attendees and awardees who are NOT able to attend in person, the ceremony will also be shared online via Zoom.   Tickets for online event : Free. (A zoom link will be provided in the leadup to the event).

THE EVENING PROGRAM

The evening will begin at 6 pm with light refreshments.

Guests will be seated by 6.30 pm for an Acknowledgment of Traditional Owners, followed by the Award Ceremony, and Presentations by each of the awardees about their work for peace. The event will be MC-ed by Claire Moore, former Senator and President United Nations Association of Australia, Queensland Branch. 

The formal part of the in-person event will then be followed by time for mingling. The event will close by 8.30 pm.


TRAVEL CONSIDERATIONS

Please note: the weekend of 17-19 May is a major football weekend at nearby Suncorp Stadium.
While the WILPF PeaceWomen Awards is designed to start and finish during quiet times, it is important to note that street parking is prohibited and there are no parking stations close by.

Your travel options for arriving and leaving PeaceWomen Awards are:

  • Public transport: bus, train and CityCat are all an easy walk a few minutes away.
  • Cab, Uber etc, or private car drop-off: cars may drop passengers at the Park Road entrance.
  • • Walk: eg the scenic river walk and bikeway from and to the city.
