As two local Central Australian artists passionate about the art of weaving, Tracey and Karen offer an intimate and engaging workshop designed to teach you the beautiful craft of basket weaving. During this workshop, you will learn:
- How to work with raffia, a versatile and natural material ideal for basket making.
- The essential tools needed for weaving and how to use them effectively.
- Various stitches necessary for constructing your basket, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal.
- Techniques to start and finish your basket, allowing you to continue creating on your own.
- How to shape your basket, giving it a personal touch and functional form.
This workshop is perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their weaving skills alike. With everything provided, all you need to bring is your creativity and readiness to learn. Our small group setting ensures you receive personalised guidance from Tracey and Karen, making your learning experience as enriching as possible.
By the end of the session, you will have crafted your very own beautiful basket to take home, along with the skills to continue weaving in the future. Tracey, a local contemporary artist from Alice Springs, supported by weaver Karen. Together, they formed 'Hand Woven by TKM' to share their love for this traditional craft with others.
