Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop | Winter 2026

1pm, Sunday August 2 (Changed from Saturday)

Join Southern Woods on Sunday August 2, 2026 from 1pm at Radley Park in Woolston for our annual winter fruit tree pruning and maintenance workshop, led by expert Greg Quinn.

Sponsored by Southern Woods Nursery and supported by Christchurch City Council, the workshop is an informative pruning demonstration within the community gardens area of Radley Park, known as Roimata Commons.

With its many community-planted fruit trees of all types and ages, Radley Park is the perfect spot for an up-close look at caring for edible trees. Greg will share his pruning and maintenance know-how in-situ across a wide selection of fruit trees. His focus this time of year is on pip fruit, though he'll touch on a good range of other types too.

Across this 90-minute session Greg will show you how to prune a variety of trees and talk through practical care tips for established orchards, with your ticket fee going straight back into the ongoing care of the fruit trees in this community-grown orchard and garden.

Expect plenty of handy tips and tricks throughout, with time for questions at the end.

Bring warm clothes and sturdy shoes. Places are limited, so registration is a must.

All proceeds from this session will go to pruning the community gardens' fruit trees at Radley Park.
