Winter Blues: Reflections on plants, nature, and mental health
Event description
Many of us struggle with mental health in winter. This workshop will employ detailed nature observations to inspire self-reflections on the ways winter shows up in our bodies, minds, and lives. Led by therapist Matresa Flowers and botanist Holly Poole-Kavana, we will explore the secrets kept by plants in winter and use what we observe to understand our own navigation of the dark half of the year.
Class will take place outdoors and will alternate between nature study and guided self-reflection. We'll also have hot tea to share! Make sure to check the weather and dress with extra layers-- it always feels colder than expected when we are sitting/standing instead of moving around!
This class is offered on a sliding scale, a tool that allows people to pay equitable fees according to their income and resources. Please choose the ticket price that is comfortable for you, keeping in mind your access to resrouces and privilege in addition to the numbers (for example, if you are not currently earning an income by choice and have a high degree of family or earning privilege, please choose a paid ticket; if you fall into the low-income category and have extra financial burden due to caretaking, medical debt, and/or immigration expenses, you are welcome to choose the free ticket option).
