The Parlour Doors Are Open Once Again
The Winter Parlour Series is Bookneck's collection of intimate literary gatherings inspired by the slower pleasures of another age. Each evening explores a different pastime from history, bringing curious people together to discover something new and enjoy good company.
For our third gathering, we're opening the pages of the artist's sketchbook.
Long before cameras travelled in every pocket, artists, naturalists and curious observers kept sketchbooks. They used them to record flowers, leaves and discoveries from the natural world, cultivating the habit of looking closely.
Joining us for the evening is local artist, Susan Robson, who will share her creative practice before guiding us through a relaxed botanical sketching session.
We'll also discover the fascinating language of flowers and the hidden meanings blooms once carried, exploring how people expressed affection, friendship, remembrance and hope through carefully chosen posies.
Expect teacups, conversation, books, quiet creativity and a few delightful surprises.
No drawing experience, artistic ability or historical knowledge is required. Just bring your curiosity.
