Seeking Sloane's Froglet: A Winter Waterways Wander

Rug up and join us for a relaxed winter stroll along the High Country Rail Trail to explore a picturesque part of the Kiewa River floodplain, its features and habitats.

We'll be listening for the call of the endangered Sloane's froglet, a tiny frog that’s not often seen – instead we rely on their winter calls to help us monitor where in Wodonga they are living.

We'll also introduce you to the FrogID app, an accessible way to help record and identify any frogs you hear and contribute to frog research at the same time. No expertise required, just your phone and your ears.

Along the way we'll chat about the many roles Wodonga's waterways and wetlands have — and how winter rain and flooding here are both a vital part of that story and a challenge we work with, not against.

You can bring the family, your friends or come alone, but please register as places are limited.

Wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring your sense of curiosity — we'll provide the frog facts!

About the walk and surfaces

We will walk approximately 2km on the rail trail (gravel surface with some raised walkways and bridges, mostly flat). It may be unsuitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
We will admire the surrounding wetlands and river from the rail trail and remain on the designated track.

Where does this walk start?
At the end of Gullifer Lane, where there is rail trail access and parking, Bonegilla.

Directions:
From Wodonga, take the Murray Valley Highway (B400) towards Bonegilla and Tallangatta.

After crossing the Kiewa River at Killara continue approximately 1.7km to Gullifer Lane (on right, on a rise, coming from Wodonga).

Turn into Gullifer Lane and continue 700m to the end of the road and parking area.
