Across two evenings, Laundry Sessions bring together artists working at the edges of sound, performance, film and installation. From immersive sonic environments to live experimental works, each session activating the heritage architecture in unexpected ways.
Foregrounding listening, perception and immersive practice, Laundry Sessions is about discovery and encounter—an invitation to drift, explore and engage deeply with sound and space as they unfold across the evening.

Amby Downs
Amby Downs (FIRST NATIONS) is an Australian-based interdisciplinary artist of Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaraay and European descent, whose work explores history, identity, trauma and perception, with a focus on socio-ecological issues and Indigenous political justice. Using sound and visuals as a tool for decolonisation, she explores intergenerational trauma of colonial dispossession through immersive site specific soundscapes. Occupation Studies: Ngayanhurra Bayarral Birrarung: A collaborative audiovisual exhibition with Jasper Cohen-Hunter at the Koorie Heritage Trust (running through September 13, 2026). It uses archival and field recordings to examine how colonial decisions altered the Birrarung (Yarra River).
Ai Yamamoto
Ai Yamamoto (JAP/AUST) is an artist and sound designer, creating ambient and electronic music from household sounds and electronic loops. Her practice is described as a “sonic exploration” that blends atmospheric melodies with manipulated textures. Her latest project, Microdoses (with Dan West), describes it as a “masterful blend of ambient textures, glitchy microbeats, and abstracted breaks” Her work has been commissioned for major cultural events, such as the Hiroshi Sugimoto exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Blame the Shadows
Blame the Shadows is an interdisciplinary and multimedia art practice, exploring themes of displacement, memory, identity, and belonging, with a focus on emotionally intimate and socially engaged storytelling. The work of Blame the Shadows is presented across galleries, festivals, and cultural contexts in Australia and internationally, and is supported by long-term partnerships, residencies, and mentorships.
Ecological Adaption
Ecological Adaptation by Yandell Walton (AUST) is a transdisciplinary installation by Yandell Walton exploring the relationship between humans, technology and ecological systems. Using movable LED screens, motion capture and responsive sound, the work generates evolving virtual plant environments that respond to human movement, imagining speculative ecosystems and challenging human-centred perspectives.
