Event description

Check out the exciting world of Historic Motorsport at the Winton Festival of Speed this August! With over 300 of Australia's best Race Cars including feature races from Group N and new for 2024 Group C&A, plus a grand parade of show cars each day over the weekend at Australia’s Action Track - Winton Raceway.

Racing Categories this year include Historic Touring Cars from the 1960s through to the 1990s, with Group C&A, Group N as well as HQ Racing, Historic Sports Sedans, MG and Alfa Racing, Touring Car Tributes, Formula Ford, Formula Vee and others.

There’s nothing quite like the thunder of these historic machines attacking the unique and challenging layout that Winton raceway offers. To this day the best of the best in Australian Motorsport still use and love this track for what it offers, you will too.

Also in attendance will be over 500 club display cars from all over Victoria.

With multiple clear and visible spectator viewing points around the circuit you won’t miss a second of the action. Enjoy full access that will see you walking through the garages, talking to the drivers, touching the cars and soaking in the wonderful sounds and aromas of this iconic circuit that was established in 1961.

In conjunction with proud VHRR supporter Shannon’s Insurance, there will be over 500 stunning car club vehicles on display around the circuit including a select group for the annual Shannon’s parade.

The 2024 theme will be Ford vs Holden to celebrate 50 years of the mighty 1974 Ford Falcon XA Coupe Winning Bathurst with John Goss and VHRR club member Kevin Bartlett as well as the fearsome Torana SLR/5000 and L34 with various static displays supported by Gray’s Online. Expect to see some of these great cars out on the track in Group C&A and Touring Car Tributes.

Another celebration event this year will be 60 years of the mighty Ford Mustang. The first-ever race win of any Ford Mustang was right here in Australia in November 1964 with Norm Beechey and we will be inviting all owners and Mustang car clubs to join us.

The action at the Winton Festival of Speed is just 2.5 hours from Melbourne, an hour from Albury / Wodonga, and a short 10 minute drive from Benalla with easy access off the Hume Highway following the signs at the Benalla exits. In addition to this, Winton Raceway also provides camping facilities for spectators and competitors to make it a weekend of supporting your racing habit. If camping is not your thing then don’t worry just check out all the available accommodation in the local area from Benalla to Wangaratta, Bright to Mansfield or just check out the Winton Raceway or Tourism North East for accommodation links. Enjoy a family picnic or pick up lunch in Benalla on the way or just see the various on track local food stands and trucks for any refreshments.
