Wisdom and Other Wonderful Things
Event description
Join us for a delightful afternoon of music, presented by two of the jewels in the Sydney Children's Choir's crown: the Young Men's Choir and Junior Performing Choir. Performed in the enchanting surroundings of the Australian Chamber Orchestra's Neilson Studio, the choirs are joined by special guests for this concert, Canberra's Luminescence Children's Choir, conducted by AJ America.
Shaun Tan's works have been part of the fabric of the Sydney Children's Choir for much of its history. The energetic Junior Performing Choir presents The Bird King, a song cycle by Dan Walker, inspired by images from Tan's best-selling book. Later in the program, hear Visions of the Future by Luke Byrne, based on images from Tan's The Oopsatoreum.
The Young Men's Choir, conducted by Sam Allchurch, presents an elegant program of works by David Childs, Veljo Tormis and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The Young Men's Choir captivate audiences with their refined tone and expressive interpretations: in a first for the choir, they will present a selection of madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi, an ideal way to enjoy the beautiful acoustic of the Neilson.
