The Wisdom of Trauma follows Dr Gabor Mate, who has dedicated his life to exploring the connection between illness, addiction, trauma and society.

The film envisions a trauma-informed future in which parents, teachers, physicians, policy-makers and legal personnel are encouraged to learn more about the impact that trauma can have on the human soul and how it directly contributes to “troubling behaviors” and diseases.

This screening aims to bring deeper awareness to one’s own experience, those around us and the wider community - humanising societal “issues” and creating a more compassionate society.

The panel discussion will explore such topics as What is trauma? How is trauma linked to social issues? How can we move towards a more trauma-informed society and increase accessibility to “healing”?

The discussion will also explore the impact of intergenerational and ongoing trauma in so-called-Australia and how our colonial institutions need to become more culturally sensitive for First Nations peoples.

Please note the documentary may trigger one’s own trauma.
We intend to create a safe place with support services and numbers made accessible - if you have any prior concerns please reach out.
