Wollongong Mountain Bike Club are running our kids skills coaching clinics on Sunday August 16th. It will run for 3hrs at the Kembla Trail Network.
We have 3 great coaches that are all PMBIA (Professional Mountain Bike Instructor's Association based in Whistler BC) trained and qualified. The coaching is free of charge to members of WMBC aged between 8 and 17 years old (inclusive). You will need to assess your skill level based on the criteria listed below to be put into the correct group for the day. Please note that we have only 6 spaces available per skill level. If the group you require is full, please register for the wait list AND email Reuben - events@wollongongmtbclub.com.au
PLEASE NOTE: all attendees under 12 years old must have their parent/ guardian remain on site for the duration of the coaching clinic (you may ride the trails but must be contactable by phone).
Beginner 🟢
The beginner group is perfect for kids who are just starting to ride on trails. If your child can ride on cycleways confidently & can use brakes and gears, they’re ready for this group. We’ll start with easy, flowy trails, learning to ride over bumps, and getting comfortable with basic skills like cornering and controlling speed. It’s all about building confidence and making sure your kid has solid control on their bike before tackling anything more technical. And most importantly, having fun!
Intermediate 🔵
The intermediate session is for kids who are already cruising on trails with some obstacles like rocks & rollers. They should feel good riding on blue trails and have a handle on shifting gears and brake control. This group focuses on improving bike handling, working on techniques like cornering more aggressively, hitting small jumps, and learning how to navigate some more technical terrain. If your kid’s ready to push their skills a bit further, this is the group to go for.
Advanced ⚫️
The advanced session is those who are already shredding and ready to tackle the more technical stuff. They should be comfortable riding steeper terrain, hitting drops and jumps, and comfortable to ride black trails. This group will focus on fine-tuning skills like bunny hops, manualing, and handling tough terrain like rock gardens and downhill sections. If your kid’s ready to take their riding to the next level, this is the session for them. It’s all about pushing their limits while staying in control and riding safely.
