WNA Bris South | In Her Shoes
Event description
Meet Carol Haffke, the journalist who somehow became a proud shoe shop owner!
Throughout her career, Carol chased after adventures and purposefully and deliberately went against expectations. Each time she transitioned into new roles across various industries and four continents, including a stint as editor of a newspaper in a fledgling democratic African country and a dream-turned-nightmare role working for the UN in Vietnam, Carol freely admits she had no idea what she was doing.
But she kept getting offered amazing new roles, sometimes because of her own persistence and sometimes by pure luck. And she wasn’t going to let lack of experience or skills stop her. Essentially, Carol became an expert of faking it until you make it. She never lied or misrepresented her abilities; she just chose to focus on her transferable skills instead.
Carol is looking forward to sharing how she did this, including how she decided in just four hours to open her own shoe shop with no experience in shoes, retail or business. Carol is inspired every day by some amazing women in Malawi who she met a few years ago, who also embrace new opportunities and don’t give a second thought to their lack of prior experience. They’re too busy getting on with life.
What you will learn:
*How you can also fake it until you make it
*To never say “no” just because you think you’re not ready
*How humility is your biggest asset
*Be inspired by what women in one of the poorest countries in the world can do when they also fake it until they make it!
