Udaan Presents "Woh Bhooli Dastaan"
Description
Woh Bhooli Dastaan - That Forgotten Tale
Presented by Udaan
Live Music, Poetry & Storytelling | Melbourne
Some stories are never truly lost — they live in the spaces between words, in the notes that linger after a song ends, in the silence that falls when a poem lands just right.
Woh Bhooli Dastaan is an evening of live music, Urdu poetry and Hindi storytelling. A gathering for those who feel things deeply. A space where forgotten tales find their voice again, through melody, through verse, through the ancient art of simply sitting together and listening.
(Some tales are never forgotten - they simply wait for their moment.)
Come as you are. Leave carrying something you didn't know you'd lost.

Lineup

Abhishek Tripathi
Poet | Writer | Curator & Conceptualization of Udaan's Shows Every great evening begins with someone who dares to imagine it first. For Udaan, that person is Abhishek Tripathi. A poet and writer by nature, and a curator and conceptualiser by calling, Abhishek is the creative architect behind Udaan's productions. He doesn't just plan shows, he builds entire worlds out of words, ideas and the quiet conviction that South Asian storytelling belongs in every room, on every stage, in every city. At Woh Bhooli Dastaan, you are experiencing his vision made real.

Akash Khanna
Meet our host for the evening, Akash Khanna, ex‑radio presenter whose voice has carried stories across airwaves, and a seasoned voiceover artist who brings words to life. With warmth, timing, and effortless stage presence, he guides poets and storytellers into a night where every moment resonates.

Jigar Doshi
Jigar is an engineer by profession, a tabla seeker by soul. Bound by the sacred ganda-bandh to the Ajrada Gharana, he carries a lineage that moves through his hands before it reaches his mind. The Ajrada tradition is known for its intricate layering, its restraint, its depth — and Jigar embodies all three. He has shared stages with masters across continents, not as a performer seeking applause, but as a student in perpetual conversation with rhythm. For him, the tabla is not played. It is listened to. Each stroke holds what language cannot — longing, rebellion, surrender, the particular silence between two beats where something true lives. His practice sits at the crossroads of meditation and music, where sur and taal stop being technical terms and become a way of seeing. Rooted in Ajrada's intricate grace, Jigar brings his art with rare humility — not to demonstrate mastery, but to create a space where the ordinary quietly dissolves, and only presence remains.

Waqas Mahmood
There is something almost mystical about the way Waqas Mahmood plays the flute. His music doesn't announce itself — it arrives quietly, finds the softest part of you and stays there. At Woh Bhooli Dastaan, Waqas brings a breath of the ancient and the eternal to an evening already full of beautiful things.

Nimit Rastogi
By day, a technologist. By night, a poet who turns thoughts into music. Nimit Rastogi brings a rare gift to the stage — the ability to find the most human words in the most unexpected places.

Ajay Hooda
He works to save the planet by day and saves your soul with words by night. Ajay Hooda, environmentalist, renewable energy professional, and a storyteller whose roots in Rohtak run as deep as his poetry. 🌿

Baljit Singh Sohal
A voice that carries centuries of feeling. Baljit Singh brings the soul of classical melody to Woh Bhooli Dastaan — every note a story, every song a memory. 🎵

Lakhwinder Singh
Lakhwinder Singh is a singer and musician who understands that music is not performed — it is felt. His voice carries the weight of tradition and the lightness of pure joy, often in the very same breath. At Woh Bhooli Dastaan, Lakhwinder weaves melody into the fabric of every story told on stage.

Pushp
Pushp is a voice that carries the weight of the earth and the warmth of Punjab in every word she speaks. Rooted in the soil of her homeland and shaped by its stories, its seasons, and its silences, Pushp brings to the stage a rare kind of presence, one that doesn't just recite poetry, but breathes life into it. Her connection to the spiritual and the elemental runs deep. When Pushp speaks, you hear the rivers, the fields, the forgotten prayers whispered at dusk. She carries Punjab not just as a place, but as a feeling - ancient, aching, and alive. On, Woh Bhooli Dastaan, Pushp invites you to remember. To sit with the stories we thought we'd lost and discover they never really left us.

Hamzah Surbuland
Hamza Surbuland is a man who listens to what the noise drowns out. Melbourne-based but rooted in a world far wider — fluent in six languages and the countless feelings that live between them — Hamza moves through Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Farsi with the ease of someone who has always understood that the deepest truths resist a single tongue. His words don't chase the crowd. They ask a quieter, more urgent question — when everyone around you is speaking, who is listening to what stirs inside?

Sidra Surmed
Sidra Surmed is many things, a storyteller, a writer and the creative energy that breathes life into every Udaan production. But above all, she is someone who believes deeply in the power of culture to connect us to each other and to ourselves. Behind every show Udaan creates, you will find Sidra's vision, her voice and her unwillingness to let beautiful stories go untold. At Woh Bhooli Dastaan, she is not just on stage, she is in every corner of the evening.
