Event description

Any prospective wombat carers need to complete a wombat carer course for licensing purposes, and to be a good carer for the wombats entrusted to you.

This is a beginner course and will give you a good overview of:

  • Basic wombat rescues
  • Equipment for rescues
  • Assessment of rescued wombat
  • Equipment/infrastructure needed as carer
  • Feeding a wombat
  • General care, housing and husbandry
  • Diseases / illnesses wombats may suffer (including mange) from and
  • General problems

This training workshop is jointly offered by NARG (Native Animal Rescue Group) and Wombat Rescue and presented by Bill and Les Waterhouse

To be a carer in NSW and ACT, you need to be affiliated or a member of a licensed wildlife group in your area. This course is aimed at anyone in any state who needs wombat training to join a shelter or wildlife group and would like to become a carer.

If you are going to become a wildlife carer, it is advisable that you familiarise yourself with the current Code of Practice (or similar) for the State/Territory you reside in:
