Wombats SA Astronomy Night
Event description
ASTRONOMY NIGHT AT MOORUNDE WILDLIFE RESERVE
NOTE: CURRENTLY FULLY BOOKED - Sorry, but we limit numbers so they get some telescope time, etc.
Contact us to get added to the Standby List in case there are cancels.
Wombats SA’s Moorunde Wildlife Reserve is inside the River Murray – Dark Sky Reserve and to take advantage of that we are holding another stargazing evening there!
People and Animals get a great view of the stars and night sky at Moorunde WR! 🙂
We are excited that astronomer Joe Grida will again lead this stargazing excursion changed to Saturday evening, 8th June 2024 from 6:00pm.
He brings a large portable telescope and more!
We begin with an exploration of Stars and Galaxies, etc. Joe Grida will take us on a laser pointer guided starwalk, before travelling millions of light years to a galaxy far far away. The moon rises at 8:28 pm, so once it is well up we will study the moon as well.
ATTENDANCE NUMBERS ARE LIMITED - SO BOOK YOUR TICKETS SOON!
Because it’s at Moorunde Wildlife reserve near Blanchetown and the activity starts after dark, we encourage overnight camping. 🙂
Bring your tent or sturdy caravan that can handle the dirt roads and 2-wheel tracks. We'll send you a detailed map.
If you need to leave afterwards, drive slowly and watch out for Wombats and Kangaroos.
Please arrive mid- afternoon at latest. This is to give you time to set up camp and to find the telescope area while still daylight.
BYO meals and drinks. We have two gas fired barbecues which can be used to cook meals.
