Women and Family Law: Training for Community Workers
Event description
This workshop is designed for community workers including:
- specialist domestic violence workers
- social workers and counsellors
- case workers
- support workers
- healthcare workers
- settlement workers
- housing and refuge workers
- teachers and education providers
By the end of the workshop, you should be able to:
- Understand the legal framework relating to the family law system.
- Identify the different areas of law that are covered by family law.
- Explain which laws take precedence when family law and domestic violence laws intersect.
- Identify the family law issues a client has and determine how to assist them.
- Identify where to refer clients for legal advice about family law.
The workshops will be run by experienced solicitors from Women's Legal Service NSW. They will be practical and use examples, case studies and activities to increase your confidence in identifying legal issues and providing accurate legal information and referrals.

We especially encourage workers from rural, regional and remote areas to register for this workshop as well as our workshop: Domestic Violence and the Law, which will be held on 25 September 2019.
