Event description

Bush Heritage Australia invites you to join us for a thought-provoking networking breakfast, featuring inspiring female leaders providing their insights and guidance on nature-based risks and opportunities, including the upcoming nature-related financial disclosures.

Nature loss poses risks for business now and in the future but tackling nature loss also presents considerable opportunities.

While climate change and net zero has been the headline act for some time, biodiversity and ecosystem health is rapidly taking centre stage. More than half of the world’s economic output is moderately or highly dependent on nature and there is growing recognition in the finance and business sector of the need to move beyond climate considerations and address nature-related concerns.

With mandatory nature-related disclosures now on the horizon, it’s imperative for business to act early, understand the complexities involved and take advantage of the many synergies between solutions to nature loss and the climate crisis.

Defining how companies can assess, prioritise, measure, address and track their impacts and dependencies on natural ecosystems is a significant step in the right direction for creating strong biodiversity.

OUR PANEL

Kristy Graham,  CEO, Australian Sustainable Finance Institute

Kristy is the inaugural CEO of ASFI, which works to create a financial system that can support a sustainable, resilient and prosperous future for all Australians.

With a background in sustainable finance and social impact investing across the public and private sectors, prior to ASFI Kristy led the Australian Government’s work with private and institutional investors to mobilise capital for climate and social impact in Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Kristy holds a BSc (Environmental), a Masters in Environmental Law from the University of Sydney and an MBA (Social Impact) from AGSM at UNSW and was recently named in the Australian Green Power Players List for 2023.

Dr Megan Evans,  Senior Lecturer in Public Sector Management UNSW, Canberra

Megan is a Senior Lecturer in Public Sector Management within the School of Business at the University of New South Wales, Canberra. She recently completed an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship (2020-2023) which examined the growth of private sector investment in biodiversity and natural capital.

Megan’s research aims to understand how governments, businesses and other actors can more effectively protect and manage our natural environment. She sits on the editorial board of the journal Conservation Letters.

Polly Hemming,  Director – Climate & Energy Program, The Australia Institute

Polly has extensive experience working in policy, marketing and engagement roles in both not-for-profit and public sectors.

Her current work focuses on carbon and environmental markets, climate integrity and greenwashing. Having previously led the development of a government eco-label recognising voluntary climate action by the private sector, she maintains a strong interest in non-state climate ambition and the policies and regulation that interact with this.

Polly’s previous roles have included academic publishing, remote Indigenous education, refugee advocacy and science communication, bringing a range of perspectives and experiences to her work.
