Niamh Shaw
Dr. Niamh Shaw is a science communicator, writer, and passionate advocate for the transformative power of science. With a PhD in science and an engineering background, Niamh’s lifelong ambition is to experience and communicate the view of Earth from space—her ultimate science communication assignment. As an engineer and a science communicator, she has explored some of the world’s most extreme environments, from Antarctica’s frozen landscapes to the simulated Martian desert in Utah, where she’s immersed herself in the harshest conditions to better understand how we can adapt and survive in space and on Earth.
Kate Inman
Kate is an Explorers Club Student Member and final year BSc Marine Biology student at the University of Plymouth. Even as an undergraduate, her passion for the ocean and particularly large marine vertebrates has taken her all over the world, from the Philippines to Portugal. Her greatest interest lies in marine mammal ecology, and using bioacoustics to understand whale and dolphin behaviour, presence and distribution to improve conservation and management strategies. Kate is passionate about developing awareness of marine conservation issues through advocacy and practical experience, and has featured in several pieces of media as part of her projects.
Eloise Moulton
Inspiration Through Exploration - The Polar Academy Story
The Polar Academy, (TPA) are proud to introduce Eloise. In 2020 as a 15 year old, Eloise undertook a sledge hauling winter expedition to East Greenland with TPA. She not only proved to herself how capable she was, but the incredible grit, determination and humility shown also inspired and impressed the veteran guiding team. As a result, Eloise has remained part of TPA, undertaking further polar training this year crossing the Hardangervidda in preparation for a Magnetic North Pole bid in 2026.
Eloise will tell you herself that she and her family have had a lot of heartache to endure in life, but they always found the courage to carry on. She embodies the true spirt of TPA’s motto of “Inspiration through Exploration”. This talk will be inspiring for both newcomers and seasoned explorers alike. Eloise is incredible and her journey is only just beginning.
