Women leading climate action - Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Ballarat
Event description
Women leading climate change action
The Women’s Climate Congress (WCC), supported by Compassionate Ballarat, invites women from Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Ballarat, in all their diversity, to join us for an interactive workshop to participate in building a women’s movement for collaborative, nonpartisan action to secure the climate and make the systemic changes needed to establish long-term human and planetary wellbeing.
We know that the next 7 years are critical to get policies in place to secure the climate for the younger and future generations. Women are mobilising globally in ever increasing numbers to take their full and rightful place in decision making to create a safe future of their children and grandchildren, and to usher in a policy paradigm shift towards compassion, kindness, care and nurture of all Earth Life.
The WCC Charter for Change, based on conversations with many 100s of Australian women, captures the universal longings of women and puts them in an Australian policy and social context.
Janet Salisbury the founder of the WCC along with other WCC founding members will introduce the Charter and follow with an invitation to explore how women, individually or collectively, can lead and participate in Charter aligned actions. Through facilitated & interactive group conversations, this event will encourage you to develop your own artistic, cultural, social, economic or operational responses.
"It is only by working together across diverse interests that we can have hope of surviving the challenges we face. The 47th federal parliament has already shown what’s possible when women take the lead on climate action. We have more women in parliament than ever before, and we are already seeing changes in the culture of government, which is an incredibly positive step forward. As founder of the Women’s Climate Congress – I have not only seen women rising in our parliaments but in communities across Australia, united in the belief that a new approach to leadership on climate change is urgently needed, moving beyond the adversarial party politics towards collaborative national action”.
