WestWords Women's Day Writer's Event - NSW Women's Week 2024
Event description
Women's Day Writers Event -- Hosted by WestWords as a part of NSW Women's Week
March 10 --Â WestWords Centre for Writing, 41 Hunter Street, Parramatta
This is an inclusive women-identifying and non-binary event
Free RSVP for attendance. An RSVP is for a full-day ticket. Please be considerate of others, and plan to attend as much of the event as possible!Â
10am-11am - Poetry Panel
Join poets ali whitelock, Willo Dummond and Paris Rosemont in conversation with Zohra Aly as this vibrant panel engages with and dissects the idea of female poetic form. Does their work speak to gender, and in turn, does gender inform the form of their poetry? Followed by audience Q&A.
Next choose your workshop! RSVPing for the day guarantees a spot in one of the workshops. Our Admin staff will be in touch to ask your preferred workshop. This is a first in best-dressed assignment.Â
11.30am-1pm - Poetry & Writing Workshop
Never sure where to start? Join ali whitelock and counsellor Julia Ellis as they present a workshop on helping you unearth those first few words of your poem, short story, or whatever it may become. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to find your voice, and help you create something ready to perform at the open mic event in the afternoon!
OR
11.30am-1pm - Performing your work!
Reading your work aloud is one thing -- performing it is another! If you’ve ever wanted to practice your performance skills, and gain confidence in front of a mic, slam poet Brittany Searle will run a small, intimate workshop to help you rehearse your work.
1pm-2pm - Lunch providedÂ
(sandwiches, wraps, baguettes, and finger-food cocktail options. Vegan, Vegetarian and GF options are available). WestWords is also walking distance to nearby restaurants on Marsden St.Â
1.30pm-2.30pm - Author PanelÂ
Join this exciting line-up of authors from across the spectrum of genres, featuring Hayley Scrivenor, Amal Awad and Vidya Madabushi, and chair Ally Burnham, as they discuss the dark and the light: women defying expectations on what we like to write and read.
3pm-4pm - Open Mic!
We invite poets, writers, songwriters, spoken word, or first time artists to perform at our open mic. This event is hosted by special guest feature Sarah Carroll. At the end, a winner and runner up will receive a cash prize! Sign up on the day.Â
