Women's Dinner
Event description
An initiative of St Catherine's Anglican Church, this is our inaugural Women's Dinner. We hope to host a women's dinner annually, or biannually with presenters speaking on topics of special interest to women in Brisbane.
The theme for 29 March, 2025, is "Exploring Domestic and Family Violence." Our guest speakers are:
Janeve Bolhuis: Employed with the Queensland government for over a decade, Janeve works with those who use violence in their relationships and those who experience violence. She has a bachelor in criminal justice and a post graduate certificate in domestic and family violence (DFV). She regularly provides DFV training and has been a facilitator of male behaviour change groups. Janeve is passionate about gender equality, empowering women and keeping them safe.
Felicity Bailey: A practising Anglican, Felicity regularly worships at St. Catherine’s, Middle Park. She is a survivor and thriver of long-term DFV, including emotional and financial abuse, from a 26-year relationship, married 20 years. She has two adult children. Felicity is committed to raising awareness about DFV and is an active member of the JCDVPP (see below). She aims to bring about significant changes within the church and the broader community to address the devastating impact of DFV on families.
Proceeds of our event will go to JCDVPP - Joint Churches Domestic Violence Prevention Project, which was set up in 1991 in recognition that in many instances the needs of victims and perpetrators of DFV were being inadequately or inappropriately addressed by the church. They have been addressing the problem through workshops and the publication of literature. JCDVPP are part of Qld Churches Together and you can find out more about them here: https://qct.org.au/what-we-do/domestic-violence-prevention
